This focused issue on “Advances in Countering Emerging and Zoonotic Pathogens” is edited by Dr. Kuldeep Dhama, from Division of Pathology, ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Dr. Kuldeep Dhama is a Principal Scientist in ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, India. With 24 years of research and teaching experience in the areas of immunology, microbiology and virology, he has developed several diagnostics, vaccines, immunomodulatory modules and hypothesis to counter infectious diseases of animals, poultry and public health concerns. He has to his credit 500 publications in scientific journals, authored 06 books, 60 book chapters, 20 monographs/technical bulletins and 200 popular articles in various magazines. He is a member of 20 professional/scientific societies, and honored with 50 Best Paper Awards and other high recognitions/awards. He has been awarded NAAS (National Academy of Agricultural Science, India) Associateship. He worked as Nodal Officer, WTO; Member, Wildlife Health Specialist Group (IUCN).

This focused issue of the “Journal of Public Health and Emergency” will be a collection of original research articles, reviews, and editorials focusing on advances in designing and developing diagnostics, disease surveillance and monitoring strategies, immunomodulatory regimens, immunology, nutritional strategies, vaccines, drugs / medicines, treatment modules, alternative / complementary therapies, biomaterials, and public health approaches to counteract emerging microbes and zoonotic pathogens / diseases affecting humans and animals, such as Salmonellosis, Brucellosis, Leptospirosis, Glanders, Anthrax, Tuberculosis, Influenza, Bird flu, Ebola, Zika, Nipah, Hendra, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, Corona virus, West Nile fever, Rabies, Japanese encephalitis, Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever, Chikungunya and others. The articles published in this focused issue will be useful for veterinary and medical professionals, clinicians, researchers, public health experts, and pharmaceutical industry to design effective diagnostics, immunomodulators, vaccines, drugs and adapt appropriate strategies to safeguard health of humans and their companion animals.
